Why Should I Choose a Qualified Electrician for My Home Improvement Project?

Choosing Hufnagel for Your Home Improvement Project

Most homeowners and rental owners, at some point, start home improvement projects on their house, condo, or apartment. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, or are just thinking of starting a small (or large) project, we’d like to offer some advice:

Use a qualified electrician!

We know that many people love to design, build, and create on their own. They go to home improvement stores, visit home shows, look at Houzz and Pinterest, and plan projects that will add space to their place or that will upgrade their existing rooms. We love that—we do it too. However, if your project includes electrical work, always use a qualified electrician.

Licensed Electricians Ensure Your Safety

Don’t call a handyman, or ask your neighbor to come over and take a look at your electrical work. Chances are good that you’ll hurt yourself (or others) and that your project will suffer from poor workmanship. Also, complex electrical systems are usually hiding behind walls, making it difficult to see if connections were made properly.

Qualified Electrician

This is why we recommend an electrician:

  • Experience. Licensed electricians have attended trade school and received a degree or diploma in this field. They’ll understand your home’s electrical systems and how that system is related to your home improvement project. For instance, if you’re building an addition or roughing in a kitchen, you’ll need electricity. A qualified electrician will also be very familiar with the National Electrical Code, which helps to protect homeowners with specific requirements for circuit breakers and surge protection. If you hire someone who is unqualified, you could be risking your life—and theirs.
  • Installation Safety. An experienced electrician has seen it all: dangerous wiring, incomplete wiring, old homes, home additions—everything. They know how all the wiring should be connected, and they can fix problems. Unfortunately, we know many people who have been electrocuted when they attempted to wire parts of their home. Don’t risk your life to save some money—it’s not worth it.
  • Home Safety. If you try to perform the wiring yourself for a home improvement project, how do you know that it’s the right way? How do you know that you’ve bought the correct materials, and how they fit together? We’ve heard some homeowners of botched electrical projects say that they watched a video online where an “expert” explained what to do. That expert has no idea what your house looks like and can’t see your project. However, a licensed electrician will know exactly how to complete your home improvement project.

Call Hufnagel Electric today. We can help you finish your home improvement project safely, and have over 38 years of electrical and technical experience, so you know the job will be done right.
